The one time I’m sure your child will need a transcript is if they want a career in the military. Also important is a copy of each year’s Declaration of Intent. While I was working at the WHO Office (Washington Homeschool Organization) we had someone contact us who had a problem getting into Officer’s training because they failed to file a DOI one year. I like to tell parents to work backwards from the end goal and make sure you’ve covered your bases. That means each year
1. file a Declaration of Intent,
2. do annual testing and keep a copy of the results, and
3. keep track of things that will need to go in your transcripts.
As I mentioned before Barb Shelton’s book, Senior High: A Home-Designed Form+u+la, Updated can guide you through the process.
If you’re more computer oriented, like me, then you will like Inge Canon’s program and software. Her site is: http://homeschooltranscripts.com/ HSLDA has recommendations on their website http://www.hslda.org/elert/archive/2010/02/20100204100924.asp
If you copy the table of contents of the textbooks you use, you can use that info on your transcripts. The course description is often the trickiest part. That and deciding where each life experience falls on your transcripts. I suggest doing it each year instead of waiting until the end.
Do you have info to share about transcripts. Please comment below and help other homeschooling High Schoolers parents.
