Our History
Homeschool Potpourri began
with the vision of Jenny
Sockey, a homeschooling mom, to
Linda Merker started as summer
help during our busiest time of year in 2001. What started as a temporary
position turned to a permanent one, and then back to a part-time one again
after 6 years. She still maintains the website, and helps frequently when
needed in the store. She is finished homeschooling the last one of
her six children who graduated this year.
Jessica Beach started in 2007 and bears the distinction of having been homeschooled. She has a unique perspective from the inside of the curriculum, having learned with many of the items sold in the store. She is bright, energetic and knowledgeable. A great addition to the team. In October, 2011, Jessica found a job in her field of Speech Therapy, and sadly, has left us. She got married and moved to Colorado in 2012. Starting in October, 2011 we have two new associates: Wendy Liddycoat is a
homeschooling mom who recently moved here from Oregon,. She is
knowledgeable Kaitie Merker is the daughter of Linda Merker, and she was homeschooled herself. She works as a fulltime CEF Missionary during the summer and part-time during the winter while working part-time at HSP. Kaitie has been coming to Homeschool Potpourri for many years with her Mom and has read many of the Newbery books on her visits. kaitie visited Japan in July of 2012 as a CEF Missionary. She is doing missionary work full time in King County and no longer works at the store Most days, we are busy taking in consignment books, helping homeschoolers find the books they came in for, or suggesting curriculum that might work for them. We're answering phones and shipping books to our homeschool friends across the country and around the world. We might be encouraging a new homeschool mom, or praying with one of our friends who is going through some difficulty. Because we've been around for over 20 years we have the confidence that comes from experience and the genuine desire to see homeschoolers succeed. We're always happy to see your family come through our door, or to answer your phone call, even when we're busy. We want to give our full attention to each of our guests when they are with us. but we also appreciate your understanding and patience when you have to wait. |
